It is from continued experimentation and impassioned creativity that Desert Sin has become one of the most inspirational and ground-breaking dance companies in North America since its unveiling in 1999. Fusing the intricacies of Desert Sin's Middle Eastern dance origins with a wide array of other art forms, drama, and dazzling effects a style emerges like no other creating a superior theatrical experience that is as enlightening as it is entertaining.
We are a multi-cultural dance company unified in our global artistic vision. By teaching each other new aspects of the world’s cultures we enhance our understanding of ourselves. Together we create dances that speak from our hearts. We develop characters and stories with innovative interpretations that reflect the world in which we live, and combine them with gripping visuals to create lush new worlds that never leave you. Although our members preferably come from varied dance backgrounds we maintain Middle Eastern Dance as our core as it is in this form that we find a common dance language. We then fuse this with the unique qualities each dancer may have to lend itself to our narrative. As a company of women we also support each other's needs for exploring the stereotypes and preconceived notions of our gender. We are a canvas for interpretation, revelation, and catharsis.
Desert Sin has gained national popularity from appearances in theaters, festivals, nightclubs, television, and special events. We have performed in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, and Ft. Lauderdale. We have been featured on HBO, Wild West Tech, and India TV. Our critically acclaimed production "Musée des Femmes – Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque" ran two sold out weeks in March 2004 and May-June 2005 at the historic Ivar Theater in Hollywood and was described as "skillful and brilliantly horrifying [with] imagination and audacity" by the LA Weekly.
Desert Sin continues to tour nationally with performances and workshops and is currently researching an international "Musée des Femmes" tour. We are also in pre-production for a brand new full-length program to open in 2008.
